As Labor Day approaches, it is expected that many Bay State travelers will take to the byways, the roadway and the highways for summer’s last hurrah, so plan accordingly and try to travel with family members that don’t test your patience.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) did a regional survey of its members and found 31% say they plan to travel for the three-day holiday weekend while 49% will not.
And 70% admit that inflation — including higher gas prices — played a role in their travel decisions. However, gas prices have noticeably dropped under $4 a gallon nationwide.
Mary Maguire, director of public and legislative affairs at AAA Southern New England, said she thinks there will be a lot of Massachusetts residents taking day trips during this Labor Day weekend given the good weather in store and that gasoline prices are on the decline.
Being that most of the summer holidays were complete washouts, Maguire thinks there will be a higher number of people traveling this year than last year.
