Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise was spotted on the tarmac at a North East airport on Tuesday – amid speculation he could be filming another blockbuster in our region.
Mr Cruise, 60, was seen landing at Teesside Airport shortly before 11.30am, TeessideLive reports. He was spotted by an eagle-eyed Teessider who took on his own Mission Impossible and snapped the star as his plane touched down.
The actor is fresh from the summer success of the his return to cinemas with the Top Gun franchise – Top Gun: Maverick, which saw him reprise the role of US Navy pilot Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell decades on from the original film’s success. Though there’s been much speculation as to why Tom Cruise is in the North East, his reasons are as yet unclear.
The Teesside snapper caught Mr Cruise briefly landing before the thrill-seeking actor – famous for doing his own stunts – took the controls of a waiting helicopter and left for an unknown destination.
The actor is no stranger to filming in the North of England – just last year he was pictured shooting scenes for his latest Mission: Impossible movie on the North Yorkshire Moors last year.
The pictures of veteran leading man Tom show him being greeted by ground staff at the airport, which has also welcomed Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge in the past. Dressed casually, he shook hands with staff, flashed a trademark smile before jumping into the chopper.
“Just ‘Cruise’ in to the week like…..Our staff welcomed Tom Cruise to the airport today from aeroplane to helicopter and on to a secret location…Mission Accomplished,” said Teesside Airport on its social media pages.
