Aquaman’s Jason Momoa gets huge tattoo to honour Hawaiian heritage

Jason Momoa stunned fans as he revealed a striking new inking on his head to honour his Hawaiian heritage.

The Aquaman actor said he was back on ‘the roam’ with a fresh new look, after he recently cut off his trademark hair to help encourage his 17.1 million followers to reduce their plastic waste.

The 43-year-old took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a new addition to his hairline, as he set out to board a Hawaiian Airlines flight to New Zealand.

The Honolulu native sported a white tank top, grey joggers and a black bowler hat, before revealing an eye-catching new addition to his extensive tattoo collection.

He buzzed with excitement and teased fans that he had ‘something special for you’ to mark the momentous occasion of flying to New Zealand for the first time since the pandemic with his favourite airline.

As he walked to the plane with his pink luggage, Jason said: ‘Hey check it out. Hawaiian airlines. Proud to be Hawaiian, proud to ride Hawaiian.

‘Best part is it goes to New Zealand finally again! It’s been like two years since they were able to go since Covid.’

Jason then removed his hat and showed his side profile to the camera to reveal a large tribal tattoo on the side of his head.

He had shaved a section of his hair back to get the significant ink, while the rest of his long locks were wrapped into a top knot.

He declared: ‘Hawaiian Airlines, I love you for this. I got something pretty special for you.’

After the surprise, Jason shouted: ‘Chief of war coming for you baby!’ as his friends gasped in support of his fresh new look.

It was confirmed by his team that Jason wanted to get more designs to honour his connection to Hawaii, as he already has a wrap-around pattern on his forearm.

They told JustJared: ‘He got his head and neck tattooed. It’s a huge piece, it’s related to his Hawaiian roots and culture.’

Fans were obsessed with his latest design as the comments filled with fire emoji and wishing the star safe travels.

One penned: ‘Sick tat dude!’ as another echoed: ‘Temple shave looks sick, along with that tattoo!’

A third wrote: ‘You look amazing!’

He captioned the video: ‘Here we go @hawaiinairlines is back! We’re going to New Zealand Hawaii to Aoteroa Mahalo to my Ohana for being there for me yesterday @suluape_keone it was a true honour and 20 years in the making. So stoked.’

Jason explained that his own bottled water brand is even stocked on the aircraft, as part of the airline’s plans to help cut down on plastic waste.

He continued: ‘@mananalu.water is on the flight mahalo again @ hawaiinairlines help stop single use plastic. Always on the roam!’

Jason signed the post: ‘Aloha j.’
